JPS Communications demonstrates open-standards Project 25
interoper- ability to public safety officials
(01/10/07) JPS demonstrated its Project 25 (P25) family of open-stan- dards technology and the P25 Inter Sub-System Interface (ISSI) protocol in collaboration with Cisco and EADS during the Association of Public Safety Communications Officials conference, held in Baltimore, Md, August 6-8, 2007.
JPS, Cisco, and EADS showcased that with radio networks supporting the P25 ISSI, JPS’ P25 Channel Controller
(P25CC) and ACU-2000 IP technologies, customers can achieve a cost-effective, and flexible system that efficiently uses spectrum to improve public safety communications relia- bility and interoperability. The addition of an IP-based interop-erability system to a P25 system and its ability to support inter-system P25 communications using ISSI allows P25 users to communicate securely with each other and with authorized users on other voice devices such as cell phones, public switched telephone network (PSTN) phone, IP phones, PCs and laptops.
“With the P25CC and the ACU-2000 IP, public safety agencies can achieve interoperable communications between disparate P25 and non-P25 radio networks by leveraging their existing radio and network investments.”
“With the P25CC and the ACU-2000 IP, public safety agen- cies can achieve interoperable communications between dis- parate P25 and non-P25 radio networks by leveraging their existing radio and network investments,” said Keith McDonald, vice president of sales and marketing for JPS.
“This enables our customers to communicate seamlessly with legacy radio systems that may operate on different fre- quencies or that may use other vendor technologies.”
During APCO, Raytheon and Cisco demonstrated open stan- dards P25 ISSI and IP Interoperability with:
- ISSI interoperability between P25 systems
- IP interoperability between P25 and legacy systems
- IP interoperability beyond radio
Benefits:
- Cost effective and flexible
- Efficient use of spectrum
- Enable new public safety applications
